ome of the most original ideas and some of the freshest voices in publishing are dedicated to a young-adult readership. I'm always pleased to work on a YA book, not least because it helps me keep current with the way language is being used and changed. While I'd be shy about using the slang I learn from YA authors in conversation with my peers (or, even worse, with my stepdaughter), it's always exciting to come across new words or old words used in new ways. Books were a lifeline for me growing up, and I love being even a small part of that lifeline for others.
