Genre

Part of me has always been opposed to the label "genre fiction" being used to refer to a number of different types of writing—usually sci-fi and fantasy, but also historical fiction and romance. I think it's unfair to the authors and their writing to section them off from contemporary mainstream writing, be it literary or commercial. Be that as it may, as a longtime nerd and fan of everything from Asimov to Tolkein, from robots to restoration dramas, I am always singularly delighted to be asked to enter these elaborately constructed worlds and help make them as perfect as they can be.
